Types

There are two basic types of vinyl flooring, printed or inlaid materials. Printed vinyl is the less durable and more affordable of the two. It contains a thin sheet of vinyl topped by a printed paper top coat. Inlaid vinyl is heavier and more expensive, but has a larger quantity of vinyl throughout the thickness of each sheet. Both of these products are available in sheet or tile formats.

No Rinsing is Necessary

When carpets needs an overall, deep down clean, plain vinegar can replace those costly and chemical-laden commercial steam cleaning solutions. If the steam cleaner has a tank where cleaning solution alone is added, it can be filled with full-strength vinegar straight from the bottle. If, however, the steam cleaner’s manual instructs you to add a certain amount of cleanser along with hot water in a single tank, the vinegar can simply be substituted in the exact amount recommended. If the manual states to use eight ounces of cleaning solution, for example, eight ounces of vinegar should be used instead.

Remove the Furniture

• Prepare the room that needs steaming. If possible, remove the furniture. For bulky or heavy items, place plastic under the legs of the piece to protect it from water damage.
