How to Clean a Cheap Carpet?
Many cheap carpets look like more expensive carpets and do the job of jazzing up your floors just as well.
When it comes time to clean cheaper carpets, you may think a rough-and-tumble approach is fine, not like the care taken when cleaning more expensive carpets. However, cheap carpets are often less robust in their construction, so take care when cleaning so as not to pull up carpet fibers
Things You'll Need:
- Straw broom
- Gentle carpet shampoo
- Rubber gloves
- Bucket
- Soft-bristled scrubbing brush or soft-bristled broom
- Garden hose
- Wet vacuum (optional)
Take the cheap carpet outdoors; a patio or driveway is ideal. Sweep the carpet with a straw broom to remove as much dust and dirt as possible.
Apply a gentle carpet shampoo according to product instructions.
Put on rubber gloves. Work the shampoo into the cheap carpet using a soft-bristled scrubbing brush and minimal pressure, brushing in straight strokes with the pile. If you don't want to get down on the ground, use a soft-bristled broom instead.
Let the shampoo set into the carpet if the product instructions state so. Otherwise, rinse the carpet with fresh water from a garden hose.
Brush off as much water as you can with the scrubbing brush or broom, then lay the cheap carpet to dry in a semi-shady spot. Or, use a wet vacuum to suck up the majority of the water on the carpet. Turn the carpet over once the front dries, as the back will most likely still be damp.
